Steer made several watercolours of Shoreham Harbour in Sussex on a visit in 1926, of which the present elegantly brushed study may be one. This work has similar dimensions to a watercolour of this title, sold in the artist's studio sale on 17 July 1942, when it was acquired by Metcalfe for six guineas.
