The Shore, Santander

The Shore, Santander

£350

Muirhead Bone made a number of charcoal, chalk and graphite drawings by the coast at Santander during his time in Spain in the mid to late 1930s, which led to his illustrations for 'Days in Old Spain', written by his wife Gertrude and published in 1939..

This study exemplifies Bone's remarkable drawughtsmanship and skill at conveying a complex composition of light, shade, tone and detail with the comparitively blunt tool of charcoal.
